Cell Church Conference

Myself, Emma, fellow missionary Allan Taylor and his pastor John Holloway recently attended a Cell Church Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was so great. We learned so many valuable things and gathered so many useful tools for our work in Romania, where we have been functioning as a cell church for about 2 years now.
We are so excited to take the dvds and cds and books that we purchased back and pound through them with Pastor Mihai and the leadership team. We really believe that this conference was vital to our church and were so blessed to have gone.
Below, Pastor Cesar Fajardos pastors at Mision Carismatica Internacional, where over 250,000 members worship God. We were priveleged to hear from pastors like him and others who have seen the cell church proven in their countries, and this gave us so much faith and expectation for what God will do in Romania

What is a cell church? Could you give us a quick explanation?

Sure. A Cell Church is a church that has "cell groups" and a "celebration worhsip service" at it's core. It is not just a church "that has cell groups", but a church that has focused it's vision and activities around the cell groups and celebration service. The celebration service is your main Sunday service, and the cell groups generally take place during the week. The goal is thus to disciple every convert not necessarily to become a "leader" per se, but to become first a "pastor of one", which means that they are to grow as a Christian, knowing that God wants to use them to reach others as well. As each Christian grows spiritually within their cell group and attending Sunday's service, naturally some people rise to the top and show leadership potential by winning their friends and involving themselves without being asked. These people generally become the next cell group leaders. The cell groups have as a goal to mulitiply themselves each year, sending that "new leader" out with the people that they brought into the group, to start a new group. This continues and the church grows exponentially each year and new leaders are always being raised up.

Cool thanks. So, it's kind of like going to church on sunday then having a discipleship/small group during the week? Is there a rule on how big the groups should get?

yeah, that is the foundation. obviously there are other ministries that take place such as a youth night/coffee house, worship and drama teams, internship program, pastoral training courses, sunday school classes and so on, but those other ministries are all to support the vision of cells. as far as a limit in size, each cell must have at least 3-4 members though we encourage 5 to start, and they can grow to a maximum of 15, however by 12 we like to see them multiply and start the process over again. thanks for the questions. chad
